Young Actors Classes

We have been so thrilled to be able to continue working with everyone and so happily surprised by the amount of connection possible through Zoom.  Especially at a time when we miss our friends and the company of others, it’s been really heartwarming and affirming to see everyone connecting with each other online.  We are embracing the technical aspect of being on screen. As one student put it, “I’m even more focused on watching – it’s like watching closeups in a movie.” We are also working privately online with students who are taping submissions for Casting Directors and those who just want to use this time to grow. We have been training students online from all over the country for many years now, so in some ways this isn’t new to us. And yet, this is a whole new world.

So we are making the most of it until we meet again…

RSA is proud to offer Ongoing Classes designed to train children and teens in the Meisner Technique.

amy_sophia_homeWe offer year round classes, private coaching for one-on-one training, audition preparation and taped submissions.  We work with students in person and online via FaceTime, Skype or Zoom.

We also offer several workshops throughout the year in Audition Technique, Audition for Musical Theatre Technique, Play Reading Series and our yearly 2 week Summer Intensive Filmmaking Camp. All Young Actors are invited to audition for the Ruskin Group Theatre Company and its productions.

Our ongoing classes are in the same tradition as the adult program, starting with an introduction of Meisner’s work with exercises in repetition, independent activities, relationship and emotional preparation. We apply the work to monologues and scenes from theatre, film and television.  For our younger students, we also play Improvisation Games that are both fun & unlock the imagination while teaching important lessons about listening, relationships and storytelling. More advanced classes deepen the work as students write and develop their own original pieces, work on camera, and prepare for auditions and professional work.

Our goal is to support the individual student’s interests; whether it is personal growth, auditioning for their school plays, starting out in the entertainment industry, or taking their careers to the next level.

Our students have been accepted to top schools including LACHSA, Hamilton High, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, The New School, USC, Northwestern, Brown and Barnard; have placed and won Spotlight Arts, Young Arts and DTASK; star on Netflix and Hulu shows; have become performers, musicians, writers and directors.  We have an incredible network of alumnae who continue to work and grow together and who are thrilled to share their experiences with the younger students. We believe this work benefits everyone, whatever their path may be, and so our classes are designed to support each student in their individual growth, be it as a professional actor or because they have an interest in the arts.
